Laura Mulvey- Male Gaze Theory.

Laura Mulvey, a theorist, devised a theory of how certain media is used to please the males eye. There are 4 different types of the male gaze, there is:

The Spectators Gaze: Who is viewing the text, often meaning the audience.
Intra-diegetic Gaze: Where only one person is portrayed in the media text.
Extra-diegetic Gaze: This is where the person portrayed in the text refers to the spectator (audience), also known as breaking the fourth wall.
The Camera's Gaze: Just what it says, this is basically the camera's gaze but is often referred to as the Director's gaze.
By giving a music video or a piece of text this theory it will make it more appealing to men giving it a wider target audience. The music track for our coursework is sung by a female so by giving it that male gaze theory, it will also interest men and be set to a wider audience.

Another part of the Male Gaze theory suggests that women are portrayed as either a virginal innocent character or a sexy 'whore' who acts very provocative. This is called the virgin/whore dichtomy.
